  174.                      QUICKSTART INSTALLATION OF RETAIL PLUS
  175.

  177. Retail Plus version 5.2 is supplied as an archive file called
  178. "PLUS52.ZIP". It contains all the files you need. Follow these steps to
  179. get a functioning system onto your hard drive:
  180.  
  181. 1 - At the "C:>" prompt create a new directory on your hard drive and go
  182. to that directory:
  183.                      MD RETAIL              <press enter>
  184.                      CD\RETAIL              <press enter>
  185.  
  186. 2 - Using an archive un-packing utility such as UNZIP.EXE, unpack the
  187. contents of PLUS52.ZIP into the new directory:
  188.  
  189.                      UNZIP A:PLUS52         <press enter>
  190.  
  191. 3 - Now check for a file called "CONFIG.SYS" in the root directory of the
  192. startup drive. If it is there it should contain the following statements
  193. with the at least minimum values shown (they can be greater but not
  194. smaller):

  196.                      FILES = 30
  197.                      BUFFERS = 10
  198.  
  199. You can check the contents of CONFIG.SYS just by typing:

  203. If the files & buffers statements are absent you can use any text editor
  204. to insert them.

  206.                             STARTING RETAIL PLUS
  207.  
  208. To start Retail Plus go to the directory where it is found and enter R52
  209. at the DOS prompt:

  213. Explanation: The installation process creates a file called R52.BAT that
  214. contains the following two lines:
  215.                                   SET CLIPPER=F:30
  216.                                   RETAIL52
  217.  
  218. Retail Plus should always be started up with this batch file, otherwise
  219. your system may not allow it to open enough files. If at some point in
  220. the program you press F1 for help, and instead of a help screen you get a
  221. DOS Error 4 (too many files open), then you know that you cannot open
  222. enough files. If this happens try typing SET at the DOS prompt. You
  223. should then see CLIPPER=F:30 on the screen along with the other DOS
  224. environment setups. If it is not there then the program was not started
  225. up using R52.BAT. If the file R52.BAT is missing you can create it with
  226. any text editor such as the DOS Edit command.

  228. Retail Plus is initially configured to start without requiring a
  229. password. If it does prompt you for a password just type "TEST" and press
  230. ENTER. You can remove this password later and set up new ones if you need
  231. security. If this password does not give you access then someone has
  232. already set up the system for security.
